Curriculum Created by Sherry Lewis-Peterson;  Allison Mitchell Co-authored Lesson 5 on  3/09.

Welcome to Growing Green by Covering the Spectrum

We will be working through 8 different lessons in this project based curriculum, each building on the previous, the end result will be a beautiful organic garden.  Students involved will communicate with each other and to the teacher through this Wiki.  Students are encouraged to give positive comments, share researched websites, give advice and support where needed and ask questions (if you know the answer feel free to answer) that will guide their learning.  Students will be working in the Outdoor Classroom in order to complete the various tasks in each lesson.

Students will be using their full spectrum of senses in this program (sight, smell, taste, touch and sound).  For every lesson students will be asked which of the 5 senses were used and for what reason.  Please take time in the Outdoor Classroom to sit quietly, meditate and discover.  Students may work individually, with a partner or in small groups to complete each of the tasks.

Teachers will be given a resource guide at the beginning of each Wiki lesson.  These resources will give the basic terminology and techniques necessary to successfully facilitate each lesson.  If students are inclined they may also use the resource guide to support their understanding of the content.

Objective

The objective of this curriculum is to allow students to discover nature, learn successful gardening techniques from convergent cultures, and use technology as a research tool for guidance, with emphasis placed on using the 5 senses.  Each student will physically and mentally contribute to the Outdoor Classroom garden.   Students are welcome to work together and with aides.  Please ask if extra support is needed, this should be a fun program with yummy results.
